New Delhi: Former Indian opening batter Murali Vijay has announced his retirement from all formats of international cricket. He penned a heartfelt note to thank BCCI, Chennai Super Kings and Tamil Nadu Cricket Association. He wrote that he will be exploring new opportunities in cricket.

Sharing the note, Murali wrote that representing India at the highest level and playing the sport from 2002-2018 has been the ‘most wonderful years’ of his life. He thanked his teammates, coaches and support staff for helping his dream turn into reality.
The batter also showed gratitude towards his fans who stood by him in all the ups and downs and also thanked his family and friends.
Vijay wrote that he will be looking for other opportunities with the game and the ‘business side’ of cricket. 38-year-old added that he will continue to play the game and challenge himself.
Murali Vijay has represented India in 61 Test matches scoring 3982 runs with 12 centuries and 15 fifties. With the white ball, he has played 17 ODIs and nine T20Is, scoring 508 runs, including a half-century.
He made his Test debut in Nagpur against Australia in 2008 where he managed 33 and 41 in two innings as India beat the Aussies by 172 runs. He even played his last Test against Australia in Perth in 2018.
The batter was known to face the new ball in swinging conditions overseas and had a good record with the same as he batted at an average of 30.80 scoring three centuries and nine fifties away. The 2014 India tour of Australia was a memorable one for him, where he scored five 50+ scores including a 99 and a 144.
