“Some of the greatest sports stories are COMEBACK stories…”: Former England Kevin Peterson feels Prithvi Shaw’s time is not yet over!

New Delhi: Former England international cricketer Kevin Peterson believes that even after a series of setbacks, Prithvi Shaw still has merit in him to play at the highest level in cricket. Once considered the ‘next big thing’ in Indian cricket, Shaw’s career has been on a downward spiral.

Twice his name came up at the auction and despite a base price of Rs 75 lakh, not one paddle went up for him. This will be the first time since Shaw’s IPL debut, in 2018, that the right-handed batter will not feature in a season.

Apart from his lack of form, Prithvi Shaw has also shown brash behaviour and fitness from various former India cricketers and experts.

However, former England batter Kevin Petersen has said:

Some of the greatest sports stories are COMEBACK stories. If Prithvi Shaw has decent people around him who care about his long-term success, they’d sit him down, tell him to get off social media & train his absolute backside off in getting super fit…

Prithvi Shaw- the fallen legend

Once a promising right-hand opener, Prithvi Shaw has now tragically become a fallen legend. The selectors have decided to drop the name of Prithvi Shaw to teach him a lesson for his recurrent discipline problems. According to reports, reporting to net sessions late has been one of the biggest concerns for the team management when it comes to Shaw.

Furthermore, the report claims that he doesn’t take net sessions seriously and is also irregular. Many also consider him overweight, which also shows a lack of discipline towards the profession he is in. To explain the gravity of the situation, the selectors have given the example of veteran cricketers like Shreyas Iyer, Shardul Thakur, and even captain Ajinkya Rahane, who are said to be pretty consistent when it comes to practice sessions. Meanwhile, Prithvi Shaw has missed quite a few sessions, even after getting out cheaply.

Whether Shaw plays for Mumbai or not is a matter of concern in the immediate context, the long-term question is whether he can make a comeback to the national team once again or not.
