Vaibhav Suryavanshi scripts yet another history to become the youngest player in…

New Delhi: Vaibhav Suryavanshi has created yet another watershed moment in Indian cricket history by becoming the youngest player to be drafted in List A. Earlier, the left-handed batter became the youngest-ever player to be sold in an Indian Premier League (IPL) auction in November when he was sold to Rajasthan Royals for Rs 1.1 crore.

Suryavanshi broke the record after making his Vijay Hazare Trophy (India’s domestic one-day tournament) debut for Bihar against Madhya Pradesh on Saturday. Aged at 13 years and 269 days, Vaibhav surpassed the previous record set by Ali Akbar in the 1999/00 season. Ali was aged 14 years and 51 days when he played for Vidarbha.

On the other hand, Suryavanshi continues to break the age records in other spheres of domestic cricket. The left-hander has already become the youngest player player to play a Ranji Trophy and to represent India U19 before this.

Who is Vaibhav Suryavanshi?

Vaibhav Suryavanshi is a young and talented left-hand batsman from the small town of Samastipur, Bihar. Suryavanshi has featured in 5 Ranji Trophy games since his debut in the domestic circuit against Mumbai. Currently, Vaibhav is playing T20s in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for Bihar. He recently made his T20 debut against Rajasthan, on November 23.

The highlight of his career so far is the century against Australia U-19, which came off just 58 balls, before he fell for 104. That knock made Suryavanshi the youngest cricketer – at 13 years and 187 days – to score a century in youth cricket. The Indian cricketer broke the previous record of 14 years and 241 days held by Bangladesh’s current captain Najmul Hossain Shanto.
Suryavanshi also has a triple-century to his name – an unbeaten 332 – in a U-19 tournament in Bihar, the Randhir Verma Tournament. He idolises Brian Lara and consults former India opener Wasim Jaffer about his game from time to time – they first met during a U-19 white-ball tournament in Bangladesh in November 2023.
His formal coach till now has been his father, Sanjeev Suryavanshi who was also a cricketer.
