New Delhi: On Monday, August 28, 2023, Neeraj Chopra became the first-ever Indian to win a gold medal at the World Athletics Championship and also the only Indian to have multiple medals at the event.
Neeraj earlier won a silver medal at the 2022 World Athletics Championship held in Eugene, Oregon.
Earlier, Neeraj secured a direct entry in the final round with his 88.77m throw in the qualification round.
The reigning Olympic and now the World Champion’s journey in the final was not a cake in the park as his first throw was declared foul by the judges.
However, on his very second throw, Neeraj managed to send his javelin flying through the air to a massive 88.17m away which was more than enough to win him his first-ever gold at the world championships.
