Watch: Tensions flare up as French fans and Israeli fans embroil in a clash during the Nations League match

New Delhi: The football world was stunned following the incidents that unfolded in Stade de France after the fans of France and Israel clashed in the stands. Videos taken by spectators and posted on the X social media network show fans, some with Israeli flags, running along the rows of seats at the Stade de France while other fans whistled and booed. Stewards wearing orange bibs moved between the two groups to separate them.

It was the second successive attack against Israeli fans following the incidents against the fans of Maccabi Tel Aviv club who were attacked in Amsterdam last week after their match against Ajax during the Europa League match. On that occasion, the fans were attacked after the Maccabi fans set Palestinian flags on fire.

Israel vs Palestine has been a growing political problem which has spread like wildfire in Europe. The Palestinian cause has been sentimental in certain sections of the French population. Naturally, such an outburst against Israeli fans in this part of the world was expected.

However, such nasty incidents go against the principles of sportsmanship for which football stands.
