New Delhi: Ajay Singh, who was all set to clinch gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in weightlifting failed in his final attempt. He was a contender for the gold medal in his weight class.
He had finished 4th after missing his final clean and jerk lift at 180kg in men’s 81kg category.
Before his attempt, his family in Rajasthan had already started preparing to organise a grand reception when he will return home from Birmingham.
Ajay Singh, holds the National Record of having a combined lift of 338kg (148+190) in Apia, Samoa, in 2019.
Talking about his best snatch effort is of 148kg, he had first come in 2018 in Ashgabat.
How did his journey in weightlifting start?
There was a point of time when Ajay Singh had no idea that there was a sport called weightlifting which existed, but thanks to his uncle who was in the Army.
It was in 2015, when Ajay Singh got his first podium when he made his nationals debut in Yamunanagar.
It was since then that he did not look back. In 2019 and 2021 that he had gone to claim the Commonwealth Senior Championship gold. He trains with Haryana’s Vijay Rohilla.
What he loves to do in his free time?
Ajay Singh enjoys watching South Indian film in his spare time. He especially like watching those films starring Telugu superstar Ravi Teja.
