New Delhi: Ahead of the upcoming Test series against England, Team India has picked Dhruv Jurel, a young & dynamic in the 16-member squad. The 22-year-old cricketer has been picked for first two matches of the Test series against England.
The five-match series against England is set to get underway at Rajiv Gandhi Interational stadium in Hyderabad.
This is the maiden call for Dhruv Jurel in Team India squad and he would fill in the space in wicket-keeping segment. Notably, Ishan Kishan has taken a break from the game citing mental fatigue.
Not just Ishan Kishan, pacer Mohammad Shami has also missed out on the selection in squad, on account of his injury during the ODI world cup campaign in November last year.
Who is Dhruv Jurel?
With his maiden selection in the squad, Dhruv Jurel has joined the likes of KL Rahul and KS Bharat and would be competing for a place in the wicket keeper segment.
Being the ‘surprise pick’, Jurel will serve as back-up wicket keeper to KL Rahul & Bharat. Hailing from Uttar Pradesh, the wicketkeeper batter has caught the attention of fellow cricketers with his spectacular knocks in domestic circuit recently.
He was part of India A team, which played against South Africa in December 2023. He made his debut in the first-class cricket from Uttar Pradesh in 2022. His selection in Team India squad comes on back of his performances in Ranji Trophy. While playing in domestic circuit, he has scored 790 runs in just 15 matches. His batting average standing at 46% comprises of some astounding knocks on the boundary, including fours & sixes.

Dhruv Jurel is among the youngest player to go under the hammer in Indian Premiere League (IPL). He made his IPL debut in 2023 and has played 13 matches so far. The cricketer impressed the cricket lovers & his franchisee with his skills and has been retained by the Rajasthan Royals for season 2024. His batting strike rate in IPL stands at a staggering 172.72.
