New Delhi: Manu Bhaker surpassed everyone’s expectations as she stormed into the 10 m women’s air pistol final finals. Bhaker’s performance was the only positive in a day where shooting did not yield any positive results.

Bhaker who was in control during the entire qualification round will be the first female athlete in 20 years to qualify for the medal matches in shooting. India last won an Olympic medal in shooting 20 years back when a gusty Gagan Narang managed to bring back a bronze medal for the country. Bhaker shot an impressive 580 out of a possible 600 to finish third in the qualification round.

Manu Bhaker’s Quest for an Olympic medal comes at the back of her unfortunate in Tokyo 2020. A pistol malfunction back in Tokyo had left a heartbroken Manu staring down the barrel during the qualifications. Speaking about the Tokyo setback, Manu retorted “One of the very sour memories of my life.”

However, on Saturday Bhaker was brimming with ‘confidence’ as she looked to bring back a medal for her country and thereby uphold the legacy of previous shooters like Abhinav Bindra and Gagan Narang.
