New Delhi: India women’s cricket team defeated England by seven wickets in the second ODI at the Wankhede Stadium. India were better than England in all departments and took a 2-0 lead in the three match series. In grand scheme of things, India got two points to solidify their second place in the ICC ODI Championship.

Chasing 162 runs, India looked slow in patches but they could afford to be careful in their approach with the below-par total by England. Smriti Mandhana continued her strong form in the 50-over format to score 63 and Mithali Raj remained unbeaten on 47. Earlier, Punam Raut gave Mandhana good support for a 73 run stand for the second wicket.

Earlier, gritty batting from Natalie Sciver took England to 161 instead of the expected 130 at one stage. With wickets falling quickly in the middle, India were in command but failed to close the inning out. Sciver, on 85, was the last wicket to fall as both India seamers, Jhulan Goswami and Shikha Pandey, took four wickets each.
