New Delhi: The 18th edition of the World Athletics Championship is set to commence on July 15. The event will be held in Oregon, the USA with more than 200 nations participating. The event will witness around 2000 athletes participating in 49 track and field events.
India has high hopes for medals at World Championship 2022 as for the first time the Indian contingent has an Olympic medalist. The only medal for India at the event came back in 2003 when Anju Bobby George won a bronze medal in Paris. The Indian contingent will be led by Tokyo Olympic gold medallist Neeraj Chopra. Chopra recently won 2 silver medals at Paavo Nurmi Games and Diamond League, Stockholm respectively. He has scored his personal best by throwing at a distance of 89.94 m. The athlete will surely be eyeing the 90 m mark in Oregon. With his toughest competitor Johannes Vetter withdrawing from the event due to an injury, Neeraj Chopra’s path to a medal seems clear.
