    ‘Baba ka Dhaba’ owner files cheating case against YouTuber Gaurav Wasan who shot viral video

    New Delhi: After a complaint by ‘Baba ka Dhaba’ owner Kanta Prasad, the Delhi Police has filed a cheating case against YouTuber Gaurav Wasan for alleged fraud while collecting donations for the elderly couple.

    Kanta Prasad, the owner of the recently famed ‘Baba Ka Dhaba’ eatery, on Friday said that he wants a fair and impartial investigation into the management of donations raised to help him by a Youtuber.

    YouTuber Gaurav Wasan, who highlighted the plight of the South Delhi eatery owner in a video and used it to seek donations from the social media community, is being accused of misappropriation of funds sought on Prasad’s name.

    “We have filed a police complaint about the money issue. An enquiry is underway. We want a fair and impartial investigation in the matter,” Kanta Prasad told media.

    His lawyer clarified that Kanta Prasad doesn’t want anyone to be sent to prison but only wants to clear his name from the money controversy. According to his lawyer, Wasan had gathered funds that Kanta Prasad was unaware of.

    “We want a fair investigation. Baba ji is not interested in sending anyone to prison. He just wants to come clean in public as he is being trolled for turning greedy. The public was supporting him, but then a few people started trolling him due to which he faced some problems. People started asking him whether he got money collected in his name,” advocate Prem Joshi said.

    “Gaurav Wasan came to his house on October 26 and gave him a cheque of Rs 2.33 lakh and after some arguments with a manager, Wasan said their balance was cleared. But the police investigation has revealed that on October 27 and 28, Rs 1 lakh and Rs 45,000 respectively were received in the bank account, which Babaji was unaware of,” Joshi added.

    Kanta Prasad earlier registered a complaint against Wasan and his associates for allegedly misappropriating the money he later received in donations. Wasan, on the other hand, has refuted allegations by the popular joint’s owner.

    Delhi: Kanta Prasad, the owner of Baba Ka Dhaba, filed a Police complaint against Gaurav Wasan -who first shot his video & posted it- for allegedly misappropriating funds raised to help his wife & him. He alleges cheating, mischief, criminal breach of trust, a criminal conspiracy by Wasan.

    In the video, Kanta Prasad has revealed how lockdown has severely impacted his earning because of the lack of customers at his eatery in Malviya Nagar. Following this, many people donated money to help them. Prasad told Indian Express, “I don’t get a lot of customers now; most people come here to take selfies… Earlier I was earning over Rs 10,000 per day, now it’s Rs 3,000-Rs 5,000.”

    He further claimed that YouTuber Gaurav Wasan “intentionally and deliberately shared only his and his family/friends bank details and mobile numbers with the donors and collected huge amount of donation through different mode of payments i.e bank account/wallets without providing any information to the complainant.” The police have also confirmed that they have received a complaint about the same.

    “We received the complaint yesterday at the Malviya Nagar Police Station and the matter is being probed. No FIR has been registered yet in the case,” Atul Kumar Thakur, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South), said.”

    However, Wasan has denied all allegations against him and claimed that he has transferred all the money into the Baba Ka Dhaba’s owner’s bank account. He told Indian Express, “When I shot the video, I didn’t know it would become this big. I didn’t want people to harass Baba (Prasad) so I shared my bank details…”
