New Delhi: Apple, in a press release on June 6, announced a reimagined lock screen in iOS 16. Today netizens pointed out that the features of the new lock screen facility offered by Apple are actually ‘copied’ from Glance, an Indian company that developed it.
Apple shared that the users will now be able to customize their lock screen and also access live content while the screen is not unlocked. In 2019, Glance brought out the technology by which users can access the content while the mobile screen is still locked. Apple’s Live Activities feature allows users to see the live score in sports, food delivery order updates, etc. right from the lock screen.
As of March 2022, Glance has partnered with Oppo, Vivo, Samsung, Xiaomi and Realme for the Lock Screen Innovator facility. Also, brands like Netflix and Sony music have used the facility of Glance lock screen for going live before launching any content on their platforms.
Another lock screen feature offered by iOS 16 is ‘Focus’. It allows users to tie a lock screen wallpaper and widgets to a particular Focus. Using Focus filters, apps like Calendar, Mail and Safari can display only the content that is relevant to the user’s Focus.
Netizens are tweeting and appreciating the technology innovated by Glance. People are considering it a success of Glance that Apple is copying its innovation.
