New Delhi: There are billions of users of Google Maps in India, and the company always tries its best to maintain the app’s prominence. However, most of the appealing features are reserved especially for users in Western countries. At this point, Google is trying to improve its reputation in India by introducing more services that it has unveiled for other markets.
With the touch of both local flavour and Western influence, Google Maps has unveiled some intriguing new features. The most anticipated Maps updates for Android users in India in 2024 are –
Address Descriptors
Local landmarks are often used as directions by most of the population. Google is aware of this tendency and plans to implement a feature called Address descriptors on Maps to accommodate it. The feature is set to drop nationwide in India in January. With the new Address Descriptors, users can share their position by dropping a pin, and the system will automatically recognise and display up to five relevant landmarks. Most Indian users rely on landmarks while navigating, therefore this AI-driven functionality is perfect for them.

Fuel Efficient Travel
To promote environmentally friendly modes of transportation, including two- and four-wheelers, Google is introducing a fuel-efficient routing option. Now, Maps can help you save money on your next trip. Google is now rolling out this service to customers in India. Google Maps uses artificial intelligence to reduce fuel consumption and emissions by analysing real-time traffic data, road elevation, and vehicle types. In 2024, people in India will be able to use this function.

Live View Walking integration with live street view navigation is made feasible, so you can practically obtain directions from Maps as you walk along the street. The phone will vibrate to alert you to your presence and show an arrow on the screen to indicate the direction. Starting with Android, this capability will be rolled out to more than 3,000 cities and towns throughout India.
