New Delhi: Xiaomi launched the Redmi 8 in India today. The Redmi 8 is the successor to the Redmi 7 that launched in the country earlier this year.
Redmi 8 launch show began with Xiaomi India’s Anuj Sharma on the stage. He started by talking about the company’s Diwali with Mi sale that concluded last week. During the sale, Xiaomi sold 5.3 million devices, Sharma revealed. Out of these 5.3 million devices, 3.8 million were smartphones. Sharma then moved on to the Redmi 8, which is being unveiled today.

The Redmi 8 launches in India at price starting at Rs 7,999. This is the price of the base model of the Redmi 8 with 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage. The top-end model 4GB + 64GB Redmi 8 variant is priced at Rs 8,999. As a special offer for selling 100 million smartphones over the past 5 years, Xiaomi will offer the first 5 million units of the Redmi 8 4GB + 64GB variant at Rs 7,999.

Redmi 8 specifications:

The Redmi 8 comes packed with a 6.22-inch full-screen display. The phone comes with an HD+ IPS display with Gorilla Glass 5 protection on top. The Redmi 8 is powered by the same processor that runs the Redmi 8A. The phone comes with an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 processor paired with up to 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage.

The Redmi 8 comes with two cameras on the back panel and single on the front. The selfie camera sits inside the Dot drop notch on the front. The Redmi 8 comes with a main 12MP Sony363 sensor with Dual PD and a secondary 2MP depth sensor. On the front the Redmi 8 includes 8MP shooter that comes paired with lots of AI — AI portrait mode. The phone also includes FM Radio with built-in antenna.

The Redmi 8 includes — USB Type C, Dual SIM card slot, dedicated microSD card slot (up to 512GB), 3.5mm headphone jack, Bluetooth 4.2, P2i nano-coating, among others.

Among other specifications, Redmi 8 packs a rear fingerprint sensor, Face Unlock support, and a 5,000mAh battery with 18W fast charging support. Sharma claims that Redmi 8 comes with several AI battery enhancements to provide excellent battery life. You will also get a USB Type-C port. The company is bundling a 10W charger in the box.

The Redmi 8 goes on sale for the first time in India on October 12 at 12am on Mi.com, Mi Home and Flipkart. The Redmi 8 comes in two colors Sapphire Blue and Ruby Red colors.
