News which went viral

Even as Shiv Sena plays hardball with its alliance partner BJP for government formation in Maharashtra, photos and videos of Aditya Thackeray are going viral on the social media. In the viral clip, it is being claimed that the Sena leader recently visited Ajmer Sharif where he offered prayers for becoming Maharashtra Chief Minister.

How it impacted social media

Owing to such surprising claim, it got widely circulated on Facebook and Twitter and is being shared furiously on social media. Some users called it a ‘shameful act’ of Shiv Sainiks while others derided it for ‘losing faith’ in Siddhivinayak temple.

What is the fact?

The fact is that BJP and Shiv Sena alliance got clear mandate from the electorate but were unable government as they got engaged in prolonged verbal duel over CM candidature.

Shiv Sena is insisting on following 50-50 formula as agreed before polls but BJP categorically rejects this, saying that no such agreement was inked or agreed upon between the two coalition partners.

While the two parties are engaged in hard bargain over govt formation, the photos and video of Aditya Thackeray started trending on Twitter/Facebook.

However, there is no truth in it as these photos are months old – clicked in June this year.

On doing reverse image research, we concluded that the photos landed on media platforms in June this year. Apart from India TV, a local YouTube channel also ran this video clip. On Twitter, this was tweeted by a Twitter handle named Garav Soni on June 9.

Truth or Rumour

It is true that Shiv Sena leader Aditya Thackeray visited Ajmer Sharif shrine before the Maharashtra Assembly elections. But, the ‘CM spin’ given to it is misleading and wrong. He didn’t visit the Dargah after elections.
