New Delhi: In the US Open Tennis Tournament, five-time Champion Roger Federer was knocked out after losing to Grigor Dimitrov in the quarterfinals on Tuesday.

The 78th-ranked Bulgarian, who had dropped all seven prior meetings with Federer, made a dramatic fightback to defeat the Swiss third seed 3-6, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 at Arthur Ashe Stadium. He will face Russian fifth seed Medvedev in Friday’s semis.

Roger Federer struggled to hide his disappointment after his bid for a first US Open title since 2008 ended abruptly with a five-set loss to Grigor Dimitrov in the quarter-finals.

US Open: Federer, Sharapova crash out

He was denied on five break points in the 10th game of the fourth set and the 78th-ranked Dimitrov held to force a fifth set, before the Bulgarian broke his rival twice in succession to effectively seal victory.
