Ramdev post which went viral

An image showing a frail Yoga gura Ramdev, surrounded by many people in surgical masks recently sent the social media into a tizzy. One of them is said to be Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, offering water to Yoga guru. It was claimed that photo was of Ramdev after undergoing surgery in London.

Photo caption says that the man who advocated consuming urine to ward off disease doesn’t follows what he preaches.

Viral post sends Social media into a tizzy

Once the photo landed on social media, it became an internet sensation. The Yoga guru, who remains an inspiration to many, aroused strong emotions among his followers and detractors.

Ramdev’s photo was shared frantically on social media and commented upon.

What is TRUTH of viral post ?

The viral image is true but the associated claim is fake.

Using reverse-image search, we came across a news report which sheds light on this photo.

The photo is from Year 2011, when he sat on fast demanding tougher laws against corruption and black money.

On June 10, 2011, Ramdev’s health deteriorated at his Patanjali Yogapeeth ashram in Haridwar and was admitted to a hospital in Uttarakhand.

Later, the religious gurus including Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and Murari Bapu (as seen in the photo) offered him a glass of water and got his 9-day-long fast broken.

Moreover, video of this is also available on YouTube which completely exposes the fake claim of knee surgery in London.

Conclusion – FACT or RUMOUR ?

The viral post is indeed FAKE and has no iota of truth in it.
