Dr Bhupen Hazarika was born on September 8, in the year 1926, in Assam
He used song as an instrument to bring forward social issues and is known for his baritone voice and expressions
His songs were marked by brotherhood, communal amity, universal justice, empathy and humanity
Dr. Bhupen Hazarika wrote and sang his first song by the age of 10
He was a PHD holder and he has written proposals for preparing ‘India’s Basic Education to Use Audio Visual Techniques in Adult Education’.
Soon after completing his doctorate, Hazarika became teacher at Gauhati University
He had produced a 52 episodes tele-serial titled
Dawn
for telecast on Star TV.
Bhupen won the President’s National Award for the best filmmaker thrice in 1960, 1964 and 1967
In 2001, he was honoured by the Government of India with the Padma Bhushan
He died of multi-organ failure on November 5, 2011, at the age of 85
