Hindi Diwas: 9 Facts About India's official Language

Hindi is the mother language of 18 crore people while around 30 crore people use it as their second language.

Across the world, it's spoken by 366 million people. In the countries such as Mauritius, Fiji, Guyana, and Nepal, it's widely spoken. 

Hindi alphabet is famous for its own independent and distinct sound. 

Popular English dictionaries have added Hindi words such as Yoga, Thug, and Cheetah in their collection.

 Hindi became the official language of India in 1949. 

Since Hindi was recognised as the official language of India, we celebrate every year Hindi Diwas on September 14. 

George W. Bush, former American President, sanctioned a budget of $114 million for Hindi education. 

According to the World Economic Forum, Hindi will be one of the most powerful languages in the world by 2050. 

Mahatma Gandhi asked for making Hindi a national language in 1918 but it never turned into reality.
