INS Vikrant: India's first indigenous aircraft carrier commissioned today 

INS Vikrant is the largest ship build in India's maritime history. Costs Rs 20,000 crore

It is named after India's first aircraft carrier that played a vital role in 1971 war with Pakistan

It is 262m long, 62m wide. Displaces approx. 43,000 tonnes when fully loaded. Max. design speed of 28 knots with endurance of 7500 nautical miles

With its commission, India joins an elite league with US, UK, China, Russia and France-counttries capabilities to indigenous design and build an aircraft carrier 

It is designed by Indian Navy's Warship Design Bureau, build by Cochin Shipyard Limited

Build using indigenous equipment and machinery supplied by India's major industrial houses

Capable of supporting 30 aircrafts, MiG 29k fighter jets, Kamov-31, and MH-60R Multi-roles helicopter

Has full-fledged medical compartments with physiotherapy clinic, ICU, laboratories, etc

Aircraft landing trials will begin from November, to be completed by mid-2023
