Mortal remains of Lance Naik Chandrashekhar reach hometown, CM Pushkar Singh Dhami pays last respects

Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami reached Haldwani, the hometown of Lance Naik Chandrashekhar to pay his last respects.

The remains were brought to Lance Naik Chandrashekhar’s hometown in Haldwani.

His family includes his wife Shanti Devi and two daughters. At the time, when he went missing, his wife was 28 years old, their elder daughter was 4 while the younger one was just one-and-a-half years old

A patrol party of Rajputana Rifles found the remains, torn clothes and an Army disc of Lance Naik Chandrashekhar during a search.

Lance Naik Chandrashekhar went missing during an avalanche in 1984. His mortal remains were found after 38 years.

He was identified by his Army disc that was found in an avalanche-destroyed shelter.

He went missing during Operation Meghdoot. It was an operation that aimed at taking control of Siachen Glacier on the morning of April 13, 1984.
