Saba Singh Grewal is Azad's true name
Saba is the niece of Safdar Hashmi, India's renowned theatre artist and communist dramatist
She began her acting career in Delhi with her late uncle's theatre troupe Jana Natya Manch, where she worked alongside Habib Tanvir and MK Raina, among others.
Saba relocated to Mumbai from Delhi and appeared in a two-man drama at the Prithvi Studio produced by Makarand Deshpande
Her debut acting role was in the short film Guroor, directed by Ishaan Nair
In 2008, she made her Bollywood debut in Anil Senior's Dil Kabaddi, alongside Irrfan Khan, Rahul Bose, and Soha Ali Khan
Azad is a well-known musician and vocalist in India's indie rock scene, and one half of the popular electronic duo Madboy/Mink, which she co-founded in 2012 with actor and musician Imaad Shah
Saba and Shah were together for seven years until splitting up in 2010. They collaborate as musicians
Saba founded her own theatrical group, The Skins, in 2010 and directed her debut play, Lovepuke, which premiered in September 2010 at NCPA's experimental theatre
