Militia fighters decapitate 40 police officers in DR Congo
Brazzaville, Mar 26: A militia group has decapitated 42 policemen after an ambush in central Democratic Republic of Congo.
According to Kasai Assembly President Francois Kalamba, members of the Kamwina Nsapu militia attacked the police convoy between the cities of Tshikapa and Kananga in Central Kasai province on Friday.
Militia members apprehended the policemen after the ambush and then decapitated them. The militia members freed six policemen because they spoke the local Tshiluba language.
The decapitations were announced as the rights group yesterday called on Congo’s government to cooperate with UN efforts to locate their experts who have been missing in the Kasai region for nearly two weeks.
Large-scale violence erupted in the Kasai region when security forces killed the militia’s leader in August last year. According to United Nations, more than 400 people have been killed and more than 200,000 displaced in this violence.
