New Delhi: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi underwent a routine security check at New York’s JFK airport during his recent US visit.

Footage aired on Pakistani TV channels over the past two days shows Abbasi picking up his bag and coat and walking out from a security check at what they said was an American airport.

Abbasi being put through security checks in US has left Pakistan government furious over the ‘embarrassment and humiliation’ meted out to him.

The Pakistani PM was in the United States last week to meet his ailing sister.

During brief visit to the country, Abbasi also met Vice-President Mike Pence where he was told that Pakistan will have to do more to address issues relating to terrorism.

The development may lead to further worsening of relations between the already strained ties between US and Pakistan.

The incident comes at a time the US is considering tough measures on Pakistan, including visa bans and other sanctions on individuals in the Pakistani government.

Not long ago, US President Donald Trump tweeted, “The United States has foolishly given Pakistan more than 33 billion dollars in aid over the last 15 years, and they have given us nothing but lies & deceit, thinking of our leaders as fools. They give safe haven to the terrorists we hunt in Afghanistan, with little help. No more!”
