New Delhi: Rongali Bihu begins today across Assam with Goru Bihu. Thie first day of Rongali Bihu is observed as Gorlu Bihu with traditional fervour.
In Assam, a week-long Bihu celebrations begins with ‘Goru Bihu’, which is dedicated to livestock.
On this day, farmers take their cows to a nearby river or a pond and give them a good bath. After giving them a good bath Mah-Haldi is applied on them. The Mag-Haldi is prepared with tumeric powder and pulses onto them.
While the cows are given bath, people sing traditions song while giving bath to the cows.

Because Assam is an agricultural state, people here worshipp cows as Lakshmi. So on New Year,Assamees people worship their cows and appy turmeric on them.

Meanwhile, this year the first day of Ronagali Bihu is even more special as Prime Minister will be in Assam today and will be inaugrative several projects.
He will also the mega Bihu celebration which will be performed by more than 10,000 Bihu dancers.
Bihu is celebrated three times in a year by the Assamese. The three Bihu are known as – Bhogali or Magh Bihu in January, Bohag or Rongali Bihu in April, and Kongali Bihu in October.
