New Delhi: The rise in new cases of Coronavirus in the national capital has proved to be nightmare not just for the city residents but also for the administration, which has been working overtime to contain its spread.
Despite the measures in place, Covid-19 pandemic seems to be spiraling out of control in the national capital with over 59,000 cases reported till Sunday. It has not surpassed Tamil Nadu to become the second worst hit by Coronavirus pandemic.
Delhi recorded 3,000 fresh coronavirus cases on Sunday, taking the tally in the city to 59,746, authorities said. According to the Union Health Ministry’s latest data on COVID-19, the tally for Tamil Nadu stands at 59,377, third-highest in the country, just after Delhi.
By death count also, Delhi 2nd worst hit
The national capital had reported 3,630 fresh coronavirus cases on Saturday, the highest single-day spike here, taking the tally in the city to over 56,000-mark.
The total number of fatalities in Tamil Nadu stands at 757. Even by death count till Sunday, which stood at 2,175, Delhi is on the second spot among the list of worst-hit states.
Maharashtra worst-hit state, Mumbai accounts for 66,000 cases
Maharashtra is the worst-hit state with a total of 1,32,075 cases and 6,170 deaths, according to the ministry data.
With Mumbai recording 66,488 cases till June 21, Delhi is likely to overtake the city in the next few days.
Gujarat is another state, hardly hit by the pandemic in terms of number of fatalities, which stands at 1663, with total cases pegged at 27,260.
