New Delhi: Amid the wide-ranging debate over postponement of competitive exams like NEET and JEE 2020, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has clarified that the exam dates will not be postponed.

Tweeting a letter, the NTA shared Supreme Court’s order stating that examination cannot be postponed any further. NTA has also clarified that the examination centres for students were changed as per request and further requests were also being addressed.

Exam centres to sanitized before & after exams

The NTA informed that it has made elaborate arrangements to comply with the guidelines of Ministry of Education for conducting examinations including the NEET AND JEE.

It said the examination centres will be sanitised both before and after the examination and the candidates can also ask for fresh masks and hand gloves at the centre.

The NTA has also sought support of the state authorities to ensure proper law and order condition, power supply, crowd management in front of exam centres, and facilitation of movement of candidates and exam functionaries.

The agency has issued along with the admit cards , ‘Important Instructions for Candidates’ as well as ‘Advisory for Candidates regarding COVID-19’.

NTA has informed that over 75 per cent JEE candidates have already downloaded their admit cards. It further said that over 99 percent of the candidates appearing both for NEET and JEE have been allotted their first preference as examination centres in order to avert instances of inconvenience.

16 lakh students to appear for NEET

The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a petition seeking postponement of NEET and JEE, scheduled to be held in September 2020. It said the postponement will put students’ career in peril.

“Career of students cannot be put under jeopardy for long,” the court said, adding that it has taken note of assurance by authorities that the exams will be held with adequate precautions.

Nearly 16 lakh students applied to appear for NEET. Candidates were given several options to opt for the nearest exam centre. The number of exam centres, claims NTA, have also been increased by almost double to ensure the safety of students
