Teachers’ Day is observed with enthusiasm all around the world. UNESCO, UNICEF, the International Labor Organization, and Education International are just a few of the organisations that have taken the initiative to celebrate October 5 as World Teachers’ Day. However, Teachers’ Day is celebrated on a different day in India.
On September 5, we honour Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan by commemorating his birthday as Teachers’ Day. It’s a time to recognise the influence teachers have had on our lives and the contributions they’ve made to society.
History
After Dr. Radhakrishnan was elected President of India in 1962, his students asked him if they could celebrate September 5 in honour of his birth. Instead, he said that they should recognise September 5 as Teachers’ Day in honour of teachers everywhere.
Dr. Radhakrishnan famously said that the country’s educators should represent the brightest brains in society.
Significance
Teachers’ rights and responsibilities, minimum requirements for pre-service education, criteria for selecting and hiring educators, and the condition of classrooms all play a role in the relevance of this work.
Teachers’ Day is a great time for students to show their appreciation for their instructors and express gratitude for everything they have done.
