Barbenheimer 1st Week BO: ‘Barbie’ & ‘Oppenheimer’ clock ₹100 crore in India

New Delhi: In India on July 21, ‘Barbie,’ directed by Greta Gerwig, faced off against ‘Oppenheimer,’ directed by Christopher Nolan, in a riveting struggle for box office dominance. According to Sacnilk.com, the two Hollywood movies made a whopping 100.6 crore nett in India during their first week in theatres. During this time period, for ‘Barbenheimer,’ – Barbie made 27.5 crore nett while Oppenheimer made 73.15 crore nett.

Seventh-day earnings of 2 crore nett helped Barbie bring in a total of 27.5 crore nett in its first week of release. In the Greta Gerwig film, Margot Robbie plays a typical version of the famous doll, while Ryan Gosling is Ken.

The first week total for Oppenheimer was 73.15 crore, which was boosted by 5.25 crore nett on its seventh day of release. American theoretical scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer, who was instrumental in the creation of the atomic bomb, is portrayed on screen by Cillian Murphy.

After premiering on July 21, Barbie became the highest-grossing opening of all time. Similarly, Oppenheimer had the best international debut of any biopic. The combined opening weekend earnings for Barbie and Oppenheimer were over $511 million globally and over $235.5 million in the United States.

According to Deadline, Barbie’s box office success has already outpaced that of several other films starring women. It also broke Captain Marvel’s record of $153.4 million for the biggest opening weekend for a picture directed by a woman in the United States. The film has the highest single-day gross of 2023 ($70,8 million).

The film’s success in 55 international countries made it the biggest non-superhero opening weekend for director Christopher Nolan.
