All about Chandrayaan-3 Mission
Chandrayaan-3 comes on back of failed ‘Mission 2’ as the Chandrayaan-2 crash-landed in September 2019 due to technical glitch. Chandrayaan-3 is expected to land on Moon on August 23, after over a month-long journey.
If the Chandrayaan-3 blasts off successfully, it will make India the only fourth nation to achieve this feat. Former ISRO scientist Nambi Narayanan says that its successful landing will increase India’s potential for further space science development.
He said that this will also substantially enhance India’s share in the global space business. Currently, India accounts for just 2% share of $600 billion industry.
Successful Chandrayaan-3 mission will put India in an elite club of nations and will become just the fourth nation after US, China & Russia to do this.
Chandrayaan-2 comprised of Vikram lander, Pragyan rover and orbiter while Chandrayaan-3 is loaded with just a lander and a rover.
According to ISRO chief, the area of landing has been expanded from 500m x 500m to 4 km by 2.5 km.
“It can land anywhere, so it doesn’t limit you to target a specific point. It will target a specific point only in nominal conditions. So, if the performance is poor, it can land anywhere within that area,” he said.
Chandrayaan-3 has also been loaded with more fuel to ensure that it remains more capable of travel or handle dispersion or move to an alternate landing site.
