Gehraiyaan

New Delhi: Shakun Batra’s Gehraiyaan was released on Amazon Prime Video last week. The movie has been getting mixed reviews from film critics as well as fans. The movie was a much-waited one and was based on the complexity of love, relationship, and infidelity. The movie starred Deepika Padukone, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Ananya Pandey, and Dhairya Karwa in the lead roles. The actors promoted the film quite well. However, the promotion of the film done by the writer’s father made him see the dark side of social media.

The co-writer of the film, Sumit Roy’s father, Chandan Roy took to Twitter to celebrate his son’s hard work. Sharing Gehraiyaan’s poster, he wrote, “See the movie. My son Sumit is among the writers.”

Twitter users within seconds of the post, barged and backlash Mr Roy’s post. They ground the writer’s writing skills and shared their own opinion. One of the users stated, “Sir what was he thinking while writing this movie. Guess he really needs help,” while another one wrote, “Tell him to stop writing immediately and enroll into a school.”

Here are some other reactions:

However, love took over the haters online. Soon people in the comment section showered with love and lauded the sweet gesture of the father towards his son. Author Kavitha Rao wrote, “One sweet gent whose son has written the Gehraiyaan script is proudly talking about it on Twitter and people are barging in to tell him they didn’t like it. This is what I mean by graciousness totally lacking these days. Let the man celebrate his son.”

Others too spread love and congratulated Chandan Roy for his son’s success. Take a look:

Although Mr Roy replied to the negative comments that were coming his way with his cunning sense of humour, he took to Twitter today to share his view on people trolling his son. “Actually all those who are giving negative comments don’t have the idea how much struggle a person has to do to reach where he is now,” he wrote. “It is very easy to condemn but very tough to go through the grinding.”
