New Delhi: Kangana Ranaut’s directorial film ‘Emergency’ has a new cast member on board. Actor Vishak Nair will play the role of Sanjay Gandhi and the makers revealed the news, with his look on a poster. Vishak, who has worked in various Malayalam films, will be seen in his first Hindi film.
‘Emergency’ is set in the times of a 21-month emergency declared, from 1975 to 1977, by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Ranaut will be seen in the role of Indira Gandhi. Meanwhile, Mahima Chaudhry plays Pupul Jayakar, Shreyas Talpade plays the role of the former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Anupam Kher plays Jayaprakash Narayan and Milind Soman plays Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw in the film.
Talking about Vishak’s inclusion in the team, Kangana said that she needed someone who can play a man with his innocence intact but who is also shrewd at the same time. She added that they looked for an actor for the role for more than six months and I decided to launch Vishak as the face. Kangana believes that he will do justice to the role of Sanjay Gandhi, who according to her is an extension of his mother and has many shades with a whole spectrum of emotions.
Vishak Nair, who is known for ‘Dear Friend’ and ‘Thimiram’, said he is excited to play a ‘historically significant and enigmatic individual’. He added that he is grateful for the opportunity.
The story for ‘Emergency’ is written by Kangana Ranaut herself while the screenplay is penned by Ritesh Shah. The film is produced by Renu Pitti and Kangana under the banner of Manikarnika Films.
