New Delhi: Fans were disheartened when ‘RRR’ was not selected as India’s official entry for the 2023 Academy Awards. However, the makers have applied for individual categories at the Oscars, and it will reportedly compete in the Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor categories. Fans ran the #RRRforOscars campaign on social media and following it, the makers have applied to the Academy in the general category.

The fans and the makers expected RRR to be sent as India’s official entry to the Oscars, while the Film Federation of India (FFI) unanimously selected Pan Nalin’s part-autobiographical feature film, ‘Chhello Show (The Last Show)’.

Team RRR shared a heartfelt note announcing their Oscars campaign. A picture of S.S. Rajamouli with actors Ram Charan and N.T. Rama Rao Jr was also attached to the note. The note said that the team RRR is overwhelmed with the global response to the film and the film being a catalyst in breaking cultural and linguistic barriers. The makers thanked the fans for their support.

RRR is a fictitious story about two revolutionaries and their journey away from home before they started fighting for the country’s freedom from Britishers in the 1920s. The story is written by Vijayendra Prasad, while Rajamouli penned the screenplay. The film stars Ram Charan, N.T.R. Jr, Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt, Shriya Saran, Rahul Ramakrishna, Makrand Deshpande, Olivia Morris and others. The film crossed the Rs 1100 crore mark in its worldwide box office collection, while it was made on an approximate budget of Rs 550 crore.
