Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar: Top 5 romcoms in 100 crore club, Ranbir Singh rules the genre with 3 movies in the last

New Delhi: In the Indian scenario, Rom-Com movies either emerge as all-time favorites or absolutely fail to attract footfalls at the box office.

After a year-long dry spell at the box office, Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor’s Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar arrived like a breath of fresh year. Securing a place in the list of top 5 romcoms, the movie entered the 100 crore club on day 6.

With Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar’s success, Ranbir Kapoor is now officially the king of romcoms. Why? Because you would be surprised to know that actor features 3 times in the list of top 5 rom coms in the 100 crore league.

Let’s see the full list here

5. Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (Rs.106.50 crores)

The star-packed 2016 romcom became the peak point of Ranbir Kapoor’s career.
Ranbir Kapoor plays a popular singer, Ayan Senger, who recalls the story of his unrequited love with Alizeh Khan (Anushka Sharma) in an interview.

The plot revolves around one-sided love and how it is anything but a weakness.
From the title track to heartbreaking Channa Mereya, all song numbers from Ae Dil Hai Mushkil emerged as instant chartbusters.

4. Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya

Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhavan reunited for this light-hearted romcom after they proved to be a hit ‘Jodi’ in their debut film Student of the Year.

With a simple yet effective plot line, the film managed to earn Rs 114 crore at the domestic box office. Varun Dhawan plays the role of Badri, who comes from a wealthy family and ends up falling for Vaidehi (Alia Bhatt) who is adamant about making a career for herself.

3. Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar (102.cr)

It seems as if Shraddha Kapoor and Ranbir Singh’s chemistry has worked well for rom-com enthusiasts. The film reached the 100 crore mark in just 6 days and is estimated to earn 15 crores more by the end of the month.

The Luv Ranjan film is a perfect pick for a newer generation who doesn’t want to play by the rules. Ranbir and Shraddha’s characters are polar opposites (yes, despite the title suggesting otherwise) who lose hearts to each other at a bachelor party. The movie plays with the contradiction of family values and career.

2. Tanu weds Manu returns (149 crores)

One of the finest works of Kangana Ranaut and an exceptionally executed sequel, Tanu Weds Manu Returns is a classic that took the romcom genre to newer heights.

Unlike the cliche happy endings, the sequels open up with Tanu and Manu’s marriage falling apart, only for Manu (R. Madhavan) to fall in love with a young student who looks exactly like his wife.

1. Ye Jawani Hai Deewani ( 178 crores)

A milestone in Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone’s careers, the 2013 romcom Ye Jawani Hai Deewani is now recalled as an all-time favorite classic.

From the characters to its catchy settings, the film is no less than a pipe dream for young adults. However, years later, Ranbir Kapoor denounced his character ‘Bunny’ as it was far from perfect.
