The introduction of Google Images has made half of our problems in life easier. Be it projects in school to searching memes, Google Images have helped us all the way. But what made Google Images come to play. Interestingly, we all owe to the popular Hollywood personality Jennifer Lopez for whom, the feature came into existence.
In the year 2000, people could only search text pages on Google. However, with Lopez stepping out on the Grammy red carpet in the famous ‘barely-there’ jungle print Versace dress, everything changed. Hundreds of people searched for that iconic dress with queries like ‘Jennifer Lopez’s green dress’ making Google come in the need of the people.
In 2015, former CEO and executive chairman of Google, Eric Scmidt stated, “People wanted more than just text. This first became apparent after the 2000 Grammy Awards, where Jennifer Lopez wore a green dress that, well, caught the world’s attention. At the time, it was the most popular search query we had ever seen. But we had no surefire way of getting users exactly what they wanted: JLo wearing that dress. Google image search was born.”

As per the reports by India Today, the dress was previously worn thrice, with Donatella Versace wearing it once. Interestingly, Lopez wearing the dress made a historic record. Although Lopez was the one who triggered the idea of creating a Google Image search, it did not happen overnight. According to KoiMoi, the engineering and product director for Google Images, Cathy Edward stated that in 2000, Google was just two years old with a small team. She reported that Google hired Huican Zhu that summer, who was an engineer and was made to work with Susan Wojcicki, who is currently the CEO of YouTube. Zhu and Wojcicki worked together to successfully build the Image Search option and launched it in 2001.
On the work front, Lopez completed her shoot for her upcoming film The Mother in Smithers, Canada. Lopez returned to the US for Thanksgiving after completing the shoot and was spending time with Ben Affleck, during a romantic date night during Thanksgiving weekend last year.
