26/11 type terror attack: Pak based number sends threats to Mumbai Police, WhatsApp chats circulate

New Delhi: The Mumbai Police on Saturday received threatening messages from a Pakistani phone number, which warned of a 26/11 attack redux in the city. Following the threat, the city has been put on high alert and police has stepped up vigil across key installations.

The threat of another 26/11 style attack came via WhatsApp chat. Reports said that the threats were sent to WhatsApp number of Mumbai Police traffic control room.

Mumbai Police have swung into action and launched detailed interrogation in the incident. Though, the sender has been identified from Pakistan, the police is looking about more clues.

The threats via WhatsApp says that 6 people will execute the plan and ‘preparation has been done to blow up the city’ and this will revive the memories of 26/11 terror attack.

The alleged threat message comes days the city saw a major security scare, just days ago. A boat loaded with three AK-47 rifles & live bullets were recovered from Raigad coach in Maharashtra on Thursday. Though, an impending threat was ruled out but the Mumbai police along with Anti-terror squad (ATS) are conducting detailed probe into the incident. National Investigation Agency (NIA) team also reached the spot.

Later, it was revealed that the boat belonged to an Australian woman and the boat was reportedly on its way to Europe. It reportedly got drifted due to turbulent weather in June.

Meanwhile, the security agencies have turned on the heat and are probing all potential threats via sea link. It was in 2008 that a group of terrorists sneaked into Mumbai via sea and massacred more than 160 people. The 10 members of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Pak based terror outfit carried out co-ordinated attacks at Mumbai’s Taj hotel and other key installations near the Gateway of India.
