New Delhi: Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut recently sparked controversy with her thoughts on India’s battle for independence against British rule.

The ‘Panga’ actor said last week at a summit that India’s independence was a ‘bheekh (handout)’. At the time, she also claimed that the country got its real Independence after 2014 when the PM Modi led BJP government came into power.

She stood by her statement even heavy criticism and advised people to choose their heroes wisely.

Following to Ranaut’s Azadi statement, senior congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar while talking about the independence of the country said, “we have been slaves of America since 2014″.

The statement came while Aiyar was addressing a seminar in the national capital on longstanding India-Russia ties.

Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar further said, “In the last 7 years, we are seeing that there is no talk of non-alignment. There is no talk of peace. They are sitting as slaves of Americans and say that… they say escape from China. Let us say that you are the closest friend of China. The bottom line of what he was saying was that India-Russia relations are years old, but since the Modi government came, this relationship has weakened. The relations that we used to have with Russia till 2014, have reduced a lot. This hurts a lot”.

Earlier, row erupted on Aiyar’s knowledge of medieval history when he had said, “Akbar ruled the country for 50 years. Keeping this in view, the road where I lived was named Akbar Road. We didn’t mind. We never said that make Maharana Pratap Road, because we consider Akbar as our own, do not consider him as non”.
