Arvind Kejriwal applauds the newly elected corporators, says you looked BJP in their eyes

In Surat, the BJP retained power by winning 93 of 120 seats, but AAP won the rest.

New Delhi: Arvind Kejriwal on Friday thanked the people of Surat for choosing Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) through his ‘Thanksgiving Road Show.’

Kejriwal also congratulated and applauded the efforts of newly elected corporators of his party. During his road show he said, “Why has BJP been governing here for last 25 yrs? It’s not as if they’re doing great.

There are lot of issues. Different parties come to power in states across the country but only one party is governing here.” “It’s because they’ve kept other parties under control. There’s no one to tell them anything, they’re doing whatever they want. For the first time when there came someone to look them in the eye -you, people gave you respect,” he added.

Poll results on Tuesday gave the signs of AAP’s entry into Gujarat politics with 27 seats in the Surat Municipal Corporation.

BJP swept the polls held on Sunday across six municipal corporations in Gujarat, winning 483 out of 576 seats.

In Surat, the BJP retained power by winning 93 of 120 seats, but AAP won the rest. The Congress, which had 36 seats in the Surat civic body the last time were not able to win a single seat this time. Instead, Arvind Kejriwal’s party has replaced Congress as the main opposition in Surat.
