Biplab Deb steps down as Tripura CM, a year ahead of Assembly elections

A new Chief Minister will be announced soon. According to reports, the BJP legislature party meet will meet at 5 PM today to elect new their leader.

New Delhi: Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Saturday announced that he was stepping down from the post. He reached the Raj Bhawan and tendered his resignation to the Governor Satyadeo Narain Arya.

A new Chief Minister will be announced soon. According to reports, the BJP legislature party meet will meet at 5 PM today to elect new their leader.  Central Ministers Bhupendra Yadav and General Secretary Vinod Tawde have already reached Agartala as observers capacity.

Biplab Deb’s resignation from the top post comes a year ahead of state going to Assembly polls.

Biplab Kumar Deb had taken oath as first Chief Minster of Bharatiya Janata Party in the state in 2018 ending the 25-year-rule of the Communist Party of India in Tripura. Sources said that the BJP wanted to go with a fresh face in the assembly polls and Biplab Dev would be engaged In organisational work.

Sources said BJP leaders Bhupender Yadav and Vinod Tawde are in Tripura as the central observers and the decision on a new leader to replace Deb is likely to be announced in the evening.
