IPL 2023: Who is Suyash Sharma, KKR spinner who nixed RCB’s run chase on his debut?

New Delhi: The clash between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challenges Bangalore (RCB) at Eden Gardens last night, saw the emergence of a star player on his IPL debut, whose piercing bowling derailed the run chase of latter, thus pocketing an easy for home team.

Suyash Sharma, mystery spinner as being dubbed after the match, took centrestage and rightly grabbed the spotlight, owing to his impressive stats of 3/30 in 4 overs.

It was a memorable night at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens as Bollywood King khan was present in stadium to cheer for his team. But, the spinner along with fellow bowlers Varun Chakravarthy & Sunil Narine destroyed the RCB batting line-up and guided KKR to a rollicking 81 runs victory.

Batting first, the KKR put a solid 204 runs on scoreboard with strong batting of Shardul Thakur scoring his maiden half-century in the IPL. The RCB despite getting off to a good start were bundled out for mere 123 runs.

Who is Suyash Sharma?

Right leg-arm spinner Suyash Sharma came as the surprise package for the KKR as he picked up 3 crucial wickets while giving away 30 runs in 4 hours.

The 19-year cricketer sent shockwaves in the RCB batting line up with his 3 wicket haul and interestingly it was his IPL debut match.

Suyash hails from Delhi and started his cricketing career with club matches. He is a member of Delhi’s Under-25 team but interestingly he hasn’t played any List A or T20 matches before getting a chance against RCB.

At what price, Suyash was bought by KKR?

Also, he was bought by the KKR management at a paltry amount of Rs 20 lakh. The KKR was the only team which made a bid for him in the IPL 2023 auction.

The KKR management was impressed with his bowling skills and made a conscious decision to bag him in the team, the result of which became evident in last night’s match.

Suyash’s debut as Impact player?

Suyash’s impressive show earned him rave reviews from team coach as well as senior players. KKR coach Chandrakant complimented him for helping team hammer RCB by 81 runs while team captain made a special mention of him in the presentation ceremony.

Interestingly, Suyash was brought into the game as Impact Player and he made the most of moment. He was roped into the match as substitute for opener Venkatesh Iyer. Nothing better could have been for the KKR, playing its first match at homeground after a couple of years and romping home with a commendable victory.
