New Delhi: PVR Cinemas, one of the leading multiplex chains in India, has recently taken action in response to a journalist’s complaint about the exorbitant prices of snacks and beverages offered at movie theatres.

The high costs of these food items have long been a concern for cinemagoers, impacting their ability to enjoy their movie experience fully. However, PVR’s decision to address this issue has garnered attention and appreciation from the public.

The journalist, Tridip K Mandal, expressed his discontent on Twitter after paying a staggering ₹820 for a mere 55 grams of cheese popcorn and a 600ml Pepsi at PVR Cinemas in Noida. He compared this expense to an entire year’s subscription cost to a popular OTT platform, highlighting the glaring price disparity.

Mandal’s tweet, accompanied by an invoice image, quickly gained traction, accumulating over 2.7 million views and prompting numerous responses from concerned netizens.

Many users shared similar experiences, lamenting the exorbitant prices they had encountered while trying to enjoy a movie outing with their families. The steep cost of snacks and beverages, in addition to the already expensive movie tickets, was discouraging people from frequenting cinemas. The sentiment was echoed by Mandal’s tweet, which shed light on the affordability crisis faced by cinemagoers in India.

In response to Mandal’s complaint, PVR Cinemas took decisive action by reducing the prices of various food items and beverages. The company acknowledged the importance of every opinion and pledged to respect them. In a tweet, PVR shared the revised prices and declared, “#PVRHeardYou – We have this update for you and for every moviegoer in India.” The announcement was well-received by the public, who commended the multiplex chain for addressing their concerns.

The public’s response to PVR Cinema’s tweet was a mix of appreciation and queries. While many praised the company for taking steps to alleviate the financial burden on cinemagoers, others sought clarification on the applicability of the revised prices across all PVR screens.
