For madrasa makeover in UP, Yogi govt gives nod for online education

New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh government, in a remarkable step towards upliftment of state madrasas has approved online education in these Islamic institutions.

In a move that will make ‘quality education’ easier for thousands of students, the Yogi government on Monday gave nod to online education in state madrasas.

UPDESCO has been entrusted with the responsibility to develop a dedicated App for this purpose. NCERT curriculum of various subjects in Hindi, English and Urdu languages will be available on this App.

The purpose behind the move is make the madrasa education more modern, making it well-equipped with technical education so that students can have better job prospects.

In 2017, the UP government had asked Madaras to implement NCERT books for higher secondary education in these Islamic institutions.

Uttar Pradesh is home to maximum madrasas in the country. According to estimates, there are 50,000 private madrasas in the state. About 19,000 madrasa are affiliated to UP Madarsa Education Board while 560 receive government aid.

Soon after Yogi Adityanath taking up reins of the state, a portal was launched to link all madrasas into a unified ecosystem, which would help in improving quality of education, transparency and also check exploitation of teachers.”

The dedicated portal –madarsaboard.upsdc.gov.in got many madrasas registered for more transparent and efficicent functioning.

In 2013, the Minority Welfare Department had found that around 100 madrassas, receiving government funding did not even exist. They existed only in papers, said a report.
