New Delhi: The Resident Doctors Association of the Maulana Azad Medical college on Thursday issued an apology after a video of their offending act sparked uproar & outrage on social media. The students of medical college, in a cultural fest organized on September 27, mocked Lord Krishna and his friend Sudama and showed the latter in inebriated state. The group which portrayed Lord Krishna & Sudama has also been banned, informed the Medical Association.

The act was performed during 4-day college festival on September 27, organised by the Resident Doctors’ Association and the Azad Medicos Association.

The video of their demeaning act started circulating on social media on October 9. In the 44-second video tweeted by Anshul Pandey, ‘Are Dwarpalon Kanhaiya Ko Kehdo’ song could be heard playing in the background.

In the act enacted by medical students, a girl could be seen portraying the role of Lord Krishna. A male actor comes from behind the screen portraying himself as Sudama but in a drunken state. He fumbles and is then seen throwing currency notes in the air. This is not the end, he is seen walking towards the centre of stage and behaves as if he is drinking alcohol directly from the bottle.

Then towards the fag end of program, he is seen walking upto ‘Krishna’ and offering him a drink from his bottle. The audience breaks into cheers.

The video created wide uproar & outrage as many people took strong offence to the act enacted by medical students.

The defamatory & slanderous portrayal of Krishna-Sudama friendship also hurt religious sentiments of many. As per scriptures, Lord Krishna’s friend Sudama was extremely poor and he didn’t have means to buy food, leave aside liquor.

On the closing note, the Resident Doctors Association also pledged that no such acts will be repeated in future.
