Relief for powerloom weavers: Govt allocates Rs 250 crore to provide power at subsidized rate

Lucknow: It is the endeavor of the Government to encourage handlooms and textiles in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The allocation for the handloom and textiles sector for the year 2022-23 in the State Budget stands at about Rs 268 crores.

In a major relief, the Yogi government has made a budgetary proposal of Rs. 250 crore to continue giving electricity at a concessional rate to the power loom weavers of the state.

The budget was presented keeping in mind all sections of the society. With the aim of promoting self-employment to the weavers of scheduled Castes, the government in its sixth budget has proposed Rs. 8 crores for the operation of the Jhalkari Bai Kori Handloom and Power Loom Special Component Scheme.

Under the new scheme, while the government will take care of the handloom weavers of SC / ST, the powerloom weavers will help in providing automatic powerloom.

One of the traditional industries in Uttar Pradesh is the handicraft and handloom industry. Being a labor-intensive sector and thus, providing numerous employment opportunities, it occupies an important place in the socio-economic structure of the state.

A budget of Rs 10 crore has been given under Mukhyamantri Bunkar Solar Yojana to provide solar inverters to powerloom weavers and handloom weavers for the use of solar energy by eliminating the dependence of handloom weavers on traditional energy sources.
