Tejashwi’s reference of mafia as ‘Atiq ji’ sparks political uproar, calls it ‘kanoon ka janaja’ in UP

New Delhi: Bihar Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav’s comment on the killing of mafias Atiq Ahmed & brother Asif in Prayagraj, by 3 unknown shooters, sparked a fresh controversy on Monday.

While speaking to media persons, the RJD leader said, “agar aap dekho jo hua toh ye Atiq ji ka janaja nahi hai, UP mein kanoon ja janaza nikla hai.”

Bihar Deputy CM addressing the dreaded gangster with respect and calling him ‘Atiq ji’ is set to trigger major backlash against him and also put him at the receiving end from BJP & other political parties.

Tejashwi however stated that he has no sympathy for crime or criminals and must be dealt with sternly, in accordance to law.

“Even the assassins of a PM were made to undergo trial and they were punished. UP tops in terms of custodial deaths,” he said.

Further slamming the Uttar Pradesh govt, he alleged that the murder of Atiq & his brother Ashraf was done for cheap publicity and this exposes the ‘jungle raj’ of UP.

“All this looks scripted & stage,” he told journos.

Atiq’s criminal past

Though 60-year-old Atiq Ahmed made a switch to politics and went on to become legislator & Parliamentarian on Samajwadi Party (SP), his criminal records of the past are enough to created horror. The mafia reportedly maintains a huge nexus of shooters & gangsters and continued to operate without fear of law. His alleged involvement in broad daylight murder of Umesh Pal speaks loud & clear about his fiefdom in crime world.

He was recently convicted by the MP-MLA court for the kidnapping of Umesh Pal, a key witness in BSP MLA Raju Pal murder case and was undergoing trial in Pal murder case, of which he was one of the key accused.

Atiq & Ashra’s killing in Prayagraj

Atiq & brother Ashraf were killed live on camera, while they were speaking to mediapersons & were flanked by a group of policemen. They were shot dead while being taken for medical examination at Prayagraj medical check-up centre.

3 men who came in the garb of scribes, opened fire at the brothers from close range and killed them on spot.

Following their murder, UP govt is facing a backlash over criminals getting better of cops & killing Ahmed brothers in police custody, it formed a three-member Judicial enquiry committee to probe the murders.

Meanwhile, the UP police is questioning the 3 killers, who fired shots. Also, how they got hold of expensive firearms is also being investigated.
