UP Nikay Chunav Election Results 2017, Updating List of winners, BJP, Congress, Samajwadi Party, BSP

New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh Nikay Chunav (Urban Local Bodies Elections) 2023 were held on May 4 and May 11 in two phases while the results will be declared on May 13. In the 2017 Urban Body Elections, Bharatiya Janata Party, which has shown its dominance in the state in the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, established itself firmly in the urban bodies as well.

The Urban Local Bodies Elections are divided into three parts, including Nagar Panchayat, Nagar Palika (Municipal Council), and Nagar Nigam (Municipal Corporation). BJP dominated the polls and got the highest numbers in all three parts. On the other hand, Samajwadi Party (SP) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), which have had Assembly governments in the past, emerged as the next two big parties.

Out of the 16 Mayor posts, BJP won 14 while the other two were won by BSP. 596 of BJP’s candidates became councillors, making up a 45.85 percent share in the win. SP’s 202 candidates and BSP’s 147 candidates won. Congress also won 110 councillors’ seats (8.46%) while Rashtriya Lok Dal won 4 and even Aam Aadmi Party won 3 seats.

225 candidates, making up 17.31 percent, won independently.

UP Urban Body Elections 2017: Nagar Palika (Municipal Council)

For Municipal Council Presidents’ post, BJP won 70 seats, followed by 45 and 29 won by SP and BSP respectively. While independent candidates won 43 Presidential posts, Congress got 9 and CPI won 1. For the Member of the Municipal Council’s post, BJP won 923 posts (17.54%), followed by 477 by SP and 262 by BSP. Congress won 158 posts making up for 3 percent of the total members.

UP Urban Body Elections 2017: Nagar Panchayat

BJP won 100 Nagar Panchayat Chief posts while SP was not behind with 83. For Nagar Panchayat Chief, BSP won on 45 seats followed by 17 by Congress, 3 by RLD, 2 each by RJD and AAP and 1 each by AIMIM and AIFB.

BJP had 664 Nagar Panchayat Members elected, followed by SP’s 453, BSP’s 218 and 126 of Congress.
