New Delhi: In the latest development over the Prophet Mohammad remark row, a group of people pelted stones and damaged a local train in West Bengal’s Nadia district.
According to media reports, an unruly mob of 1,000 people pelted stones on the train. In the violence, a few people also suffered injuries.
The Chief Public Relations Officer of the Eastern Railways said the train service has been stopped on the route and will only be started after the state government’s permission.

Notably, the violence was reported just a day after a large number of protesters disturb the peace and harmony in Bengal’s Howrah, Murshidabad, and South 24 Parganas.
Earlier in the day, West Bengal police warned the miscreants that any such acts will be prosecuted under the strictest penal sections of law.
”West Bengal police requests cooperation from all to maintain peace and harmony of the state, and to maintain the religious brotherhood and fraternity which is the hallmark of Bengal culture,” wrote further the police department.
In another tweet, the police wrote, ”West Bengal police has arrested more than 100 persons in specific criminal cases registered under stringent sections of law for road blockade, rioting, arson damage to public property and spreading communal hatred.”
