New Delhi: The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday suspended its national spokesperson Nupur Sharma for her controversial remarks against Prophet Muhammad.
Nupur Sharma later not only withdrew her statement on a TV debate but said that it was never her intention to hurt anyone’s religious feelings.
BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma and Naveen Jindal was suspended on Sunday from the party’s primary membership with immediate effect after alleged controversial remarks on Prophet Muhammad during a television news debate that led to violence in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur, ANI reported.
Before suspension, the BJP had said that it strongly denounces insult of any religious personality.
The party said that it does not promote such kind of people or philosophy.
Who is Nupur Sharma?
Nupur Sharma, is an advocate by profession, a prominent BJP leader and spokesperson.
She is an Economics and Law graduate from Delhi’s Hindu College, she has done her LLM from the London School of Economics and has been involved in politics since her college days.
About her Political Career.
Nupur Sharma, was the President of the Delhi University Student Union (DUSU) on the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) ticket, and it through this that her political career had started.
Shrama has also served on the National Executive Committee of the BJP’s youth wing BJYM, as National Media Co-In Charge of the BJYM, as a member of the BJP’s Yuva Working Committee, and as a member of the State Executive Committee, BJP Delhi.
Nupur Sharma Contested Against Kejriwal
Nupur Sharma was selected by the BJP to run in the Delhi Assembly Election from the New Delhi constituency against Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal. Nupur Sharma lost the election for the seat.
