The controversy began when Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid a visit to the island and shares pictures of his visit in social media. Prime Minister wrote, “I am still in awe of the stunning beauty of its islands and the incredible warmth of its people. For those who wish to embrace the adventurer in them, Lakshadweep has to be on your list,”

These pictures were shared by Prime Minister Modi and soon landed into a controversy and a diplomatic row started between India and Maldives. According to reports, Maldives saw this post as a threat to its tourism sector since it attracts a lot of Indian tourists.

According to sources, Maldives generate a lot of its revenue from the Indian tourists visiting the country every year. Over 2 lakh tourists visited the city in 2023. As soon the Maldives Ministers made derogatory remarks against PM Modi, users started venting out their anger and stood in support of PM Modi including Bollywood actors who had shown solidarity with our PM.
