New Delhi: Karwa Chauth, one of the most auspicious festival is being celebrated by the Hindu married women today. On this day, married women pray to Karwa Mata, Goddess Parvati, Lord Shiva and Lord Ganesha for their husbands’ long lives, prosperity and safety.
On this day women observe nirjala vrat by not drinking a drop of water or having food for the whole day. Married women read the story of Karwa Chauth in a group of married women.
When the moon rises, women look at it and their husband through a sieve, pray to the moon and give an offering and break their fast only in the evening after sighting at the moon.
They break the fast with a sip of water from their husband’s hands to end the vrat. Therefore, the moonrise timing becomes one of the most important aspect for this auspicious day.
